ZUMA Enters
Tranquil Waters
|
April 1, 2004 - San Clemente, CA -
Diversity and depth of content is what characterizes ZUMA Press. It's why LINDA TROELLER chose
us as the agent for her decade-long exploration of spas.
"Linda's work far surpasses anything ever attempted in regard
to a fine-art approach to the healing power of spas," Scott Mc
Kiernan said. "Her images are concept art and speak about the future
of beauty, health and alternative sources of finding peace in one's life
and surroundings."
Her work, while focused on the subject of
spas, offers an unlimited exploration of the essential elements of design
and provides a jumping-off point to examine the broader question about the
fundamentals of relaxation and its effects in society. Linda summarizes
her work with the motto "Health is not a destination; it is a process."
Troeller has won a Book Award of Merit, the Book Award for
Excellence in 1999 from Pictures of the Year for the book Healing
Waters (1998, Aperture), the Ferguson Award from the Friends of
Photography for her photo-collage series TB-AIDS Diary and a New
Jersey State Council on the Arts grant. Her book Erotic Lives of
Women (1998, Scalo) received acclaim in the New York Times Book
Review. Her latest publication, Spa Journeys (published by Power
House Books), just hit bookstores this January.
Her work is
collected in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and published in leading
publications including European Photography, Oprah, Marie Claire,
GQ and Wired.

ZUMA Photojournalism Honored
|
Please
join us in congratulating ZUMA's
longtime client AOL for winning an Honorary Merit award in the Web Feature
Picture Story category of the NPPA's Best of Photojournalism competition
for the editing and presentation of ZUMA's reportage feature on Haitian voodoo by
ZUMA photojournalist LES
STONE.
NPPA judge Anne Conneen said, "The photojournalism
by LES STONE/ZUMA in this piece was
outstanding; photos were tightly edited and well-paced."
"Stone
is the ultimate shooter of ongoing drama that is called Haiti with more
than 30 long-term assignments over the last decade. His amazing coverage
of everything from bloody civil wars to sacred ceremonies in the tragic
island nation tells the ultimate tale of misfortune and hope of a people.
It is exciting to see it presented with grace and style by America Online
and recognized for its merits by the NPPA," said Scott Mc Kiernan,
director and founder of ZUMA
Press.
Also, please join us in congratulating
ZUMA Press photographer MUKUNDA
BOGATI of Nepal for winning a Commendation Prize in the first year the
WACC photographic competition. The theme of the competition was
communication and the media. Bogati's image "Social Victim" shows
Dilbhadur Biswo Karma, a barefoot lower-caste laborer, being interviewed
by Ramchandra Basyal for a radio program that was examining caste-based
social discrimination--a pervasive issue in rural Nepal. For more
