ZUMA Expands
Hot Middle East Coverage
|
April 7, 2004 - San Clemente, CA -
ZUMA Press expands its coverage of
Middle East affairs this week by adding hard news photojournalist OSAMA
SILWADI and his agency, Vision Pix, to ZUMA's roster.
Silwadi joins ZUMA from Reuters, where he spent the last five
years. He was at Agence France Press for four years before that. His work
has been published around the world in countless publications, including
TIME Magazine, Newsweek, USA Today and the International
Herald Tribune.
"The Palestinian-Israeli conflict
unfortunately continues to be the epicenter of terror and devastation for
the world, and ZUMA is honored to
represent a hard-core photographer like Osama," said Scott Mc
Kiernan, director of ZUMA
Press.
Silwadi began his career over a decade ago
during the first Intifada and has put his life in danger to document the
ongoing violence and conflict with the true dedication and passion
necessary of a hard news photojournalist. Of his experience in the region,
Silwadi says, "To be a photojournalist in Palestine means to be a war
photographer. You have to be ready at all times with your camera for any
situation or unpredictable event. You are also in danger, for you can be
shot, arrested or prevented from going to the site of the action just
because you are a Palestinian photographer."
In addition to
hard news, Silwadi touches on feature photography (his images appear in
the first Palestinian tourism guidebook) and documentary work. He has
published Constant Giving and Creativity, a book on the lives of
Palestinian women, and is working on a six-year project documenting the
lives of the West Bank Bedouin "who are constantly harassed by the
Israelis," he says. His work has been on exhibit at the prestigious Sony
Gallery for Photography in Cairo, Egypt.
Silwadi founded Vision
Pix at the end of 2003. ZUMA Press
represents Silwadi and Vision Pix around the world, with the exception of
Israel, Palestine and Italy.
