Major Spanish Daily Signs with ZUMA |
 |
September 16, 2004 - San Clemente, CA - Today ZUMA Press, America's largest independent press agency and wire service,
announced exclusive U.S. representation of the picture content of the leading Spanish daily, ABC. This deal comes just two weeks after closing a similar
agreement with Associated Newspapers, the U.K.'s largest newspaper group and publisher of the leading titles, the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and the
London Evening Standard.
Based in Madrid, Spain, ABC publishes a national edition, plus nine regional editions each day. ZUMA will now syndicate
their daily picture content covering politics, business, sports, entertainment, features and more. Images from ABC's photo archive, dating back over 100
years, are also available via ZUMA upon request. (For more information, contact ZUMA's research
manager, Camilla Zenz, at 949.481.3747.)
Scott Mc Kiernan, director and founder of ZUMA Press, says, "I am glad to see great newspapers like ABC, and the dozens of
others ZUMA represents, are seizing the opportunity to broaden the exposure and reach of their content while generating significant
new revenue growth through ZUMA Press. This is one of the many deals fleshed out during my travels to Perpignan and Europe. I would
like to thank Pepe Bosch, Korpa's director, and Mercedes San Millan, Korpa's international business coordinator, for recognizing the potential our partnership
offers."
Daniel Beltra Joins ZUMA

ZUMA Press proudly goes green as the new representative of environmental and news photojournalist great DANIEL BELTRA, who
began with us by submitting his compelling coverage of Hurricane Charley while on assignment for Greenpeace. As Greenpeace's main assignment photographer since the
early 1990s, Beltra has built up an extensive image archive for himself and Greenpeace while documenting everything from environmental disasters and Greenpeace
campaigns to the French nuclear tests in Moruroa (Polynesia) in 1995.
Over the years, Beltra covered four Arctic expeditions, logged over 2,000 hours of aerial photography, mainly from helicopters, and spent over two years of his life
sailing on Greenpeace ships in Panama, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Canada, the USA, Australia, South Africa, Tunisia, Lebanon and Israel, among other
places. This year, Beltra was out photographing the receding glaciers of Patagonia's Southern Ice Fields before traveling back to the U.S. to capture the wrath of
Hurricane Charley and other extreme summer-weather patterns.
Beltra's images have been the showcased in countless Greenpeace ads, brochures and other campaigns over the years, as well as prominent media including TIME,
Paris Match, Der Spiegel, Geo, Stern and more. In addition to environmental and documentary photography, Beltra is an accomplished news
photographer. Beltra, who was based in Spain at the time, spent 10 years as Gamma's correspondent, three years as staff photographer for EFE Spanish National Agency and
freelanced for all the major Spanish dailies and weeklies, including El Mundo and La Vanguardia.
In the coming weeks, Beltra's best work will be moved into ZUMApress.com for exclusive syndication. Beltra is now based in Seattle, Washington.
To book him for an assignment, please call Trish Murphy at 949.481.3747.
