Chris Curry Brings Middle America to ZUMA
November 17, 2004 - San Clemente, CA - ZUMA Press is proud to add multi-award-winning photojournalist CHRIS CURRY to its prestigious roster of talent. The staff photographer of Illinois daily Peoria Journal Star offers a fresh, honest perspective on stories close to his heart.

Curry is well known for his in-depth documentary, "Old Order in a New World," on the Amish community near Arthur, Illinois--a project that posed a real challenge considering how the Amish shun photography. After winning the heart of a local minister, who took pity on Curry, the photographer was gradually accepted by the community, one member at a time.

"Chris' experience speaks volumes about the virtues of patience and perseverance," says Scott Mc Kiernan, director and founder of ZUMA Press. "His images from the Old Order community are timeless, intimate and real. I look forward to supporting future reportage initiatives that Chris brings to the plate."

Curry's "Old Order in a New World" received numerous awards and accolades, including a POY for Feature Photography and the Best of Photojournalism Cliff Edom New America Award. He is also the proud recipient of the Canon Award by the Sasakawa Sports Foundation, first place by Editor & Publisher in the multiple picture story category, five Copley Ring of Truth Awards and six Associated Press Managing Editor Awards, among others.

Based in Illinois, Curry just completed a five-city speaker tour with the NPPA's Flying Short Course and was recently honored with an invitation to be faculty at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar.

He is currently wrapping up a portrait essay ("Senior Workforce") and hopes to turn it into a book project. Curry specializes in features, documentaries and environmental portraits. He is now represented worldwide exclusively by ZUMA Press. To book him for an assignment, please contact Trish Murphy at 949.494.7704.

zNews

ZUMA worked every angle of the story, leading up to and following the death of Palestinian Liberation Organization President Yasser Arafat to deliver a complete storytelling package of the leader's life and legacy.

In Ramallah, ZUMA's NADAV NEUHAUS and KEVIN UNGER were quick to respond to the news of Arafat's death. Despite the precarious security, the two did a great job covering the emotionally charged funeral and the public's outpouring of grief. Kudos also go out to ZUMA contributors--ILYA PITALEV/Kommersant, AXEL/Action Press, WAIZMANN/Action Press and Visual Press Agency, among others--who also submitted timely and powerful coverage from across the Middle East.

ZUMA continues to edit and pick out selects from all incoming coverage related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. To view this concise edit, search for the keyword ZCPALESTINE or click on the banner below.

zEntertainment Tear Sheets

ZUMA's top entertainment photojournalist, LISA O'CONNOR, snapped a classic Hollywood moment at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami. The image shows a tense moment between singer JESSICA SIMPSON and husband NICK LACHEY. The image ran doubletruck in the November 15, 2004, issue of US Weekly (see pages 56-57) and as a full-page spread in the November 22, 2004, issue of Life & Style Magazine (page 22). Way to go, Lisa!

Meanwhile, KPA-ZUMA's leading lady, RENA DURHAM, scored the November 15, 2004, cover of Life & Style with the sexy portrait of actress CAMERON DIAZ, whom she shot at the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle premiere. Nice job, ladies!
