Truth Holds No Press Conferences

December 9, 2004 - San Clemente, CA - ZUMA continues to attract the most elite talent in the Industry. World-renowned photojournalist COLIN FINLAY--one of the foremost documentary photojournalists in the world--signed on for exclusive worldwide representation by ZUMA Press.

"Truth is never on vacation, she never rests. The hard stories need a voice. ZUMA is proud to rep such a voice in dedicated photojournalist Colin Finlay. He has spent almost two decades covering the most prolific stories of our time. His reportage on the horror of famine, the loneliness of AIDS and the cruel truth of indentured child labor are issues that continue to resurface," says Scott Mc Kiernan, director and founder of ZUMA Press. "His passion for the truth, no matter how harsh, is respected by editors worldwide and is a natural fit for ZUMA and our prestigious growing zReportage.com editorial service," says McKiernan.

With such powerful reporting, Finlay received numerous industry awards from POYs to an Emmy.

In 1997, he took a first-place Issue Reporting Photography Award for his essay "Child Labor." This same project was nominated for ICP's prestigious Infinity Award.

His TIME Online multimedia essay, "Rickshaw Pullers," won first place in 1998 for Best Online Photography and also took the Southeast Asia Journalism Award. That same year, his portfolio of news and feature photographs from around the world earned him a third-place Magazine Photographer of the Year Award. Finlay's photo essay on child labor was also selected for inclusion, and as the wraparound cover, for The Human Condition: Photojournalism 97 (Graphis Press). Some of these images were shown in a group exhibition at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Finlay's visual talent also allows him to work behind the video camera. In '98 and '99, he was nominated for two individual Emmys and, in 2000, his news team won the coveted Emmy for the Fox News documentary Black & Brown: When Colors Collide, an exploration of interracial tensions between teenagers in Los Angeles.

Finlay switches gears from photojournalism to high-end corporate photography as quick as the Mark II is fast! When not shooting international assignment work or developing projects for media giants like Fox News and HBO, Finlay can be found shooting ad campaigns for Fortune 500s like Eastman Kodak. Just last week, Kodak commissioned him to shoot one of their latest ad campaigns for the new series of Kodak digital cameras.

Finlay's first book, The Unheard Voice: Portraits of Childhood (Browning/Cohen), served as the basis for his first essay published by zReportage.com (see November 9, 2004). Based in Los Angeles, California, Finlay is currently working on his second book.

ZUMA will be scanning, captioning and loading Finlay's extensive image archive into ZUMApress.com over the next few months. In the meantime, editors are welcome to email our research manager, Camilla Zenz, for specific image requests. Finlay is now available for global assignments through ZUMA Press. Rebel Monks

In January 2005, the highest court in Greece will rule on a religious debate, which caused a deep divide in the holiest mountain area of the country. People hope it will provide a resolution for the 30-year standoff between Patriarch Bartholomew, the Orthodox leader and the monks of Esphigmenou Monastery and end the three years of ordered persecution of the monks.
