Middle East Powder Keg
June 21, 2007 - GAZA - As Israeli tanks and armored personnel carriers crossed the border into the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip during a firefight Wednesday morning, ZUMA Press photographers Rafael Ben-Ari and Fady Adwan were there. With diplomatic tensions at a breaking point between Hamas and the recognized Palestinian Fatah government, Gazans are lining up at the closed gates to escape before the powder keg erupts into more violence. Israeli forces, backed by the EU, are set to put continuing pressure on the situation, as Fatah-Hamas tension grows and humanitarian issues mount in the closed-off region.
