About Face

ABOUT FACE

June 28, 2007 - Miami, FL - When you think "Celebrity Portraiture" you don't have to go to Hollywood, no way, go to Florida. David Jacobs, ZUMA Press' celebrity photographer extraordinaire shoots celebs his way - sharp, direct and honest. Jacobs, has been blazing his trail as a photographer for 30- years and in the last 10, has focused primarily on celebrity portraits. Currently, working on a book of his famous mugs, we asked him to comment on some of his celebrity shoots. What we got was an eclectic group of memories, which in many ways reflect his style of shooting, candid, revealing and at times humorous.

While some were gracious, polite and cooperative,

"In a room alone with singer, Cyndi Lauper... Cyndi: "I'll do whatever you ask me to!"

Actress Sally Kellerman saying to me, as only she can (when session ended) "Don't bug me BABBY!!"

Others were not...

"I got a long lecture on the proper way to ask somebody to remove their eyeglasses, from baseball player Reggie Jackson. I thought that was strange until... I photographed actor, Tony Danza, who had a complete meltdown after just three exposures. I have no idea why, but he seemed to have snapped, it was like watching a transformation of Dr Jekyll into Mr. Hyde, (or is it the other way around?) He started yelling, "That's it! No more! Get the fuck out of here! I don't want to do this, and I don't like you!"

Some seemed confused,

David Jacobs: "Hi Pam (Anderson) it's great to finally meet you! I've been waiting a long time for this moment..." Pamela Anderson: "Oh?...they kept you waiting out there & didn't let you come in?"

"Walter Cronkite just starred at me, not answering me...but that's alright..."he can't hear you, his publicist called over to me...talk louder!"

And then there was Dyan.

Dyan Cannon (actress): "Hi David nice meeting you...David is my favorite name"... DJ: "Nice to meet you Dyan, ...Cannon is my favorite camera!"
