JADRAN LAZIC: Portrait Grand Master |

December 15, 2004 - San Clemente, CA - ZUMA's celebrity portraits division got a major boost this week as renowned
international photographer JADRAN LAZIC signed
on for exclusive worldwide representation by ZUMA Press. Based in Los Angeles,
Jadran specializes in one-on-one location and studio portraits of the world's hottest stars. Just a few of Jadran's subjects include top entertainers: Jack
Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Johnny Depp, David Bowie, Harrison Ford, Peter Falk, Shannen Doherty, Gillian Anderson, Faye Dunaway, Goldie Hawn, Heather Locklear
and Jodie Foster.
"Jadran, a location and studio portrait master of the rich and famous, is a welcome addition to ZUMA's stellar roster! His charm
is evident in every frame," says Scott Mc Kiernan, director and founder of ZUMA Press.
Almost 20 years ago, Jadran moved to Los Angeles from Paris, where he was a successful news and feature photojournalist represented by Sipa Press. Over the years,
Jadran's work has graced over 300 magazine covers and has been published in over 52 countries.
Jadran made the switch to celebrity portraits after many years covering hard news and features. On the news side, Jadran is best known for his two worldwide
exclusives. In 1982, Jadran was the only photojournalist to photograph the funeral of Russian President Leonid Ilich Brezhnev. And in 1985, while authorities
worldwide were after Abu Abbas for hijacking the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro, Jadran managed to get an exclusive portrait shoot of the wanted
Palestinian militant.

Rape: Sudan's Weapon of War* - KATE HOLT/eyevine/ZUMA Press
KATE HOLT put faces on the horrifying statistics (which were released by Amnesty International in July 2004) about the widespread use of rape and sexual violence as a
form of intimidation in Sudan. Kate interviewed and photographed over a dozen women who told gruesome stories of violent rape at the hands of both the Janjaweed
militias and Sudanese police near their camps and in the villages. To view more, click here.
Coffee: Mexico's Grind for Life* - JACK KURTZ/ZUMA Press
Coffee plantations in Mexico and Guatemala are in crisis over the worldwide drop in coffee prices following its overproduction in Brazil and Vietnam. In Tapachula,
Mexico, photojournalist JACK KURTZ discovered that the Argovia Plantation is surviving by diversifying its business to include the export of flowers and chilies. It's
also gearing up for ecotourism. To view more, click here.
Japan's Kimono Revival* - ANDRONIKI CHRISTODOULO/eyevine/ZUMA Press
After more than half a century, Japan's taste for kimonos is back. The return of this cultural symbol is spreading from the Wakamono Kimono-no-kai (Young People's
Kimono Club) at Waseda University in Tokyo to other young trendsetters around the country. To view more, click here.
Education Without Assimilation* - NIKOS PILOS/ZUMA Press
ZUMA photojournalist NIKOS PILOS discovered that not all immigration stories are tales of despair. In a tiny village on the Greek
island of Crete, a single teacher in a one-room schoolhouse is making great strides toward educating his mostly Albanian students. While Albanian families are making
religious conversions and adopting local names to ease their children's assimilation, the Cretan teacher encourages his pupils to retain their culture and language
while learning about their new home. This approach fosters a positive environment for learning.

Global Warming Beacon
Scientists confirm their worst fears about global warming by studying the fragile relationship between temperature changes, sea ice and the Southern Ocean's
ecology. What happens here not only impacts the whole Antarctic ecosystem but the rest of the world's oceans and climates.
