Our Man in Gaza

March 31, 2005 - San Clemente, CA - ZUMA photojournalist Yonathan Weitzman has moved into the Gaza's Gush Qatif settlement where he'll positioned to record the historical transition to peace between Israel and Palestine. Weitzman will give the "locals only" perspective of the settlement and its settlers. This much anticipated implementation phase of Sharon's disengagement plan will have the worlds eyes on it. He will be available for daily assignments and boost ZUMA's already strong presence in the area.

Weitzman is a long-time Israeli newspaper photojournalist who signed with ZUMA earlier this year when he was looking for international representation of his Asian tsunami coverage. He did a stellar job covering the aftermath by taking the time to talk to survivors and record their stories. The resulting portrait series, TSUNAMI Testimony showcased in zReportage.com, is a touching account that personalizes the experience and tragedy of his subjects.

Weitzman has already begun his coverage on Gaza's road to peace, see: The Jewish Settlers of Gaza Strip. He will continue his coverage from inside the settlement throughout the disengagement process. To book Weisman on assignment, please contact Ruaridh Stewart at 949.481.3747.

Of the 200 cadets currently enrolled in the three-year training program, 21 are women. In four months, these female officers will join the 15 other women who already graduated from the academy, and enter the workforce earning double the average monthly salary other workers in Northern Iraq.
