Welcome Home, Toby!

Mar. 22, 2006 - On St. Patrick's Day, with the luck of Irish behind him, ZUMA Press photojournalist Toby Morris returned Stateside after getting shot in Iraq.

On Tues., Feb. 28, 2006, while covering a sweep near Ar Ramadi, Toby was hit twice by a sniper. Toby was embedded with the Delta Company, 1st Platoon of 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). FYI: He was not with the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion as we reported initially. The bullets shattered his left femur and broke his left ankle. They rushed him to Baghdad Hospital and then flew him to U.S. Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. He was released Mar. 16, 2006, and flew home the next day.

Toby is obviously happy to be back. "It's great to be home - there is no Mexican food in Iraq or Germany!" he said. In addition to indulging in Mexican food, Toby plans to spend the next three to six months working hard at his recovery and looks forward to getting back to work as soon as he's able.
